Cairo West Virginia

The town of Cairo, West Virginia, lies on the banks of the Hughes River in Ritchie County. Cairo is a small town that flourished when the railroad came through town (1850's) and again later when the oil and gas industry began to grow in the area (1890's). When the railroad tracks were taken up, the town of Cairo lost part of its character and a significant part of its heritage.
